Bug Month - 2026

Not really a shiny hunting event, persay, but this year Wolfe Glick posted a series of bug-related Pokémon videos as part of an event called “Bug Month.” The community as a whole took it as a time to celebrate the often-overlooked bug-type, and I decided I wanted to shiny hunt about it.

I decided to hunt in Pattern Bush in FRLG’s Sevii Islands. This area has both caterpie and weedle lines, ledyba, spinarak, and heracross. I was hoping for a heracross, but was honestly content to find anything. I figured I would hunt a couple different things here throughout the month, but ultimately only found the time for one phase.

Not too far over odds, at just 9496 encounters, I found a ledyba on February 24th!

Ledyba is a Pokémon that gets a lot of flack for being weak. I always wished the Pokémon games gave us more mini-games like the Pokéathlon, where Pokémon who aren’t great at traditional turn-based battles could shine a little bit more. I really like ledyba and ledian, and seeing them in the trailer for Winds and Waves really makes me hope we get some kind of evolution or gimmick to bring them up to speed with other bug-types.

Pattern Bush, like the rest of the Sevii Islands, are sick as hell. I really want to come back here someday and hunt some more friends for Lucky, especially heracross and spinarak.
