Ranch Week - June 2026

Hoo boy, where do I even start with this one?

So, zangoose and seviper are two of my favorite gen 3 Pokémon. they both have such striking designs with high contrast color schemes and dynamic markings. I especially love the rivalry between them. It’s fight on sight with these two, and even better, I think they’re both into it?

Let’s look at zangoose’s abilities.
Immunity, which makes it so it can’t be poisoned, sure, makes sense, but the Hidden Ability? Toxic Boost. Yeah. If the super cool and powerful snake bites it hard and poisons them in the neck all sexy and shit, they grow even stronger. That’s Yaoi, right there. All that needs to be said.

Anyways, Ranch Week comes twice a year, and having started my Full Odds career with a Ranch Week, it’s only right I continue to add little freaks to SirToasty’s Ranch. Plus, it was Pride Month, so if there was ever a time to hunt this gay ferret and snake, now would be the time!

This year, I had my sights set on a zangoose/seviper pair using the PokéRadar in Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. I’d tried to rack up a decent chain once or twice before, but never really gave the radar a solid attempt, nor did I ever find a shiny with it. Figure it was time to change that.

In order to get zangoose or seviper in these games, you need to have a cartridge of either ruby (for zangoose) or sapphire (for seviper) inserted into the bottom slot of your DS. Serebii calls these… um… "GBA Insertion” Pokémon. Not a great title, but I suppose fitting for a yaoi shiny hunt…? Even funnier, the community at large refers to these as “dongle” Pokémon, which is also pretty on theme.

So I’d be hunting a pair of dongle yaoi shinies for Mr. Toasty’s ranch.

The “Dongle Yaoi Stream” took place on June 6th, 2026. I booted up a copy of Pokémon Platinum on my capture card DS, bought a dickload of super repel, and tried to remember my training. I’d watched both SirToastyToes and Johnstone’s videos on using the PokéRader, so I was coming in pretty prepared.

At first I found it tough to consistently land zangoose. I eventually started only going for encounters on tiles 4 spaces away from me, to see if maybe the distance had something to do with like, the pool or rarity of Pokémon it would give me? Surprisingly I found this to work and started racking up a chain of zangoose. Again, not sure if that’s actually like, a thing or not, but it seemed to be giving me drastically better results.

I broke a few chains in the beginning but after and hour or so, I was off to the races, finding myself at a chain of 40 for the first time ever.

From there it’s just a matter of running back and forth, using the PokéRadar, checking for sparkling patches, and running it back if there aren’t any. Barely 3 minutes later, I found my first sparkling patch: a shiny zangoose.

However, much to my dismay, this zangoose was female. While I definitely don’t want to disrespect women or call anyone’s gender into question, it was obvious that for a “Dongle Yaoi Stream” I needed to catch two male Pokémon. I will forever treasure this zangoose, which chat named “Barbar” for some reason, but it would not count as completing this challenge.

Luckily when you catch a shiny the PokéRadar chain can continue. I ran around for another 20 minutes or so and found another shiny zangoose, this one a male!

I’ve always loved zangoose, he’s just a really cool design. His body looks so soft and fluffy, with the tuft-tipped ears and bushy tail, contrasted by the jagged claws and dynamic, edgy patterns. I think a lot of us have pet cats who can be really kind and sweet, but if you pet them on their soft belly they lash out and claw at you. I think zangoose’s design really captures the essence of that dilemma quite nicely.

I’m not exactly a fan of Heated Rivarly, never seen an episode, only really know it’s a show about some gay hockey players, but chat kept making jokes about it, so we decided to name this one Rozanov, after one of the characters.

I was then told I would have to name the seviper Hollander.
Again, don’t really know who that is, but I’m here to please the people, and the people want whatever “Hollanov” is.

I saved my game and swapped out the GBA cart. With sapphire, on the same route where zangoose can be found, we can now catch our new shiny a beautiful new boyfriend.

I struggled to get another chain going for about an hour or so. Finally, I was able to lock in and carry a chain all the way to a staggeringly high 25 streak, when out of nowhere, a patch sparkled.

It was a shiny, male seviper!

I caught this one in a dusk ball and named it Hollander, after that fictional(?) hockey guy.

I lose my mind looking at the colors on this thing. The base charcoal grey body provides a nice contrast to the absolutely absurd green spots all around it. The deep red reminds me of wine, which is badass and awesome. My favorite color on this thing is the stunningly beautiful blue they chose for the teeth, tongue, and knife-tail. It’s enchanting.

I also love that you can see the game progress from daytime to sunset here. I was live for like, 6 hours, which was about twice as long as I’d ever streamed in one sitting before.

With this catch, my Shiny Dongle Yaoi quest had come to a close. I uploaded my catches to bluesky and waited for Toasty to post the parade!
